Members, family and friends gathered for a combined working and socialising evening to prepare packs for our inaugural Cans for Christmas collection. We welcomed Dr Alice Tippetts who volunteered to come along to meet members and help with the project.

Our club is joining forces with a number of other clubs in our area to collect cans from local residents. The cans will be donated to Foodbank to be distributed in the lead-up to Christmas, to assist families at what can be a stressful time of the year.

Every month it’s estimated that over 7,000 West Australian’s are turned away from charities empty handed due to a lack of food. Foodbank WA is teaming up with Rotary clubs across the metropolitan area this month to reduce this number by giving residents the chance to donate canned food through the Rotary Cans for Christmas collection.

Foodbank WA is urging people to donate what they can this month – especially the most wanted items including canned tuna, canned ham, canned vegetables, canned fruit, canned soup, canned spaghetti, black tea bags and pasta sauce – as part of its Rotary Food Drive.

If you a resident in the Subiaco, Jolimont and Daglish area reading this article, buy a few extra cans when you are shopping this week and keep an eye out for our Cans for Christmas flyer and plastic bag.

We will be collecting the donated items on Sunday 3 December from 9:00am. Simply leave your non-perishable, canned or bottled food in a bag near your letterbox for our volunteers to collect.
